Questlove and Tony Allen drumming on stage together? Talk about a dream concert… then add in the rest of the incredibly talented ensemble that comprised the Afro-Picks Big Band and you have something truly special. Described as “a journey through African funk: past, present & future”, Questlove teamed up with the Red Bull Music Academy to co-curate a special concert dedicated to the immense impact of African funk and soul on modern music. The unique show was a selection of tracks played by the Afro-Picks Big Band, which featured Tony Allen & Questlove on drums, Macy Gray, Black Thought, Mamani Keita, Amp Fiddler, members of Antibalas, the David Murray Big Band, Damon Bryson (of The Roots), cast members from Fela! the Broadway musical and more. Needless to say, if you like good music, say Yeah, Yeah and listen to this epic show.

The Robert Glasper Experiment teamed up with Pete Rock and the legendary Roy Ayers for a few special shows over the past year or so. Earlier this summer, we were blessed with a soundboard recording of the super-group performing live at the North Sea Jazz Festival in the Netherlands. Last year we presented some treats from their show in Harlem (refresh your memory here), and now we have the full set for your download pleasure below. Big thanks to Randy from Funk It for passing along this show- be sure to check out his site Funk It for all that live funk goodness.

This week marked the release of K-Os’ first official live album and the airing of his live special on Much Music. With this live album being an “unplugged” approach, k dash and his band put together some amazing new arrangements for the show. Be sure to snatch up your copy now on either iTunes (Canada only) or on Amazon.ca (includes live DVD combo). To celebrate the new release, we decided to put out our own exclusive K-Os live album. Recorded at the Highline Ballroom in NYC last year by yours truly, this is a great compliment to the “unplugged” album as it contrasts the acoustic release perfectly.

Brooklyn emcee Sene, who recently released the epic Exit, Us, teamed up with The Clubhouse once again to rock live in at Eastbridge, a tiny venue in the lower eastside of NYC. After witnessing Recess tear down Tammany Hall earlier this year (peep our recording), I vowed not to miss seeing these guys live again. Below you will find our exclusive recording of their set and some great videos. If you haven’t yet, be sure to download their free album.

The Robert Glasper Experiment and MF Doom? I certainly did not expect to see this collab ever happen, but Doom is now the latest emcee to add his name to the resume of performing with Glasper and company. When I first heard about the show, I was praying the Montreux Jazz Festival folks would release some footage (which they are known to do) and while that wish didnt quite come true, I was able to dig up an audience recording as well as some decent video.
