Common hosted a benefit concert in Los Angeles this weekend with an all-star line up featuring tons of incredible special guests.  This was like an unofficial sequel to Dave Chappelle’s Block Party as the line-up of artists was boasted by Common, The Roots, De La Soul, Ludacris, Nas, Kanye West, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, MF Doom, Queen Latifah, Heavy D and more.  If that wasn’t good enough, a mixture of The Roots and Common’s band backed everyone throughout the night.  Our newest addition to the staff, AudioMuse, was in the building to record the event exclusively for ATWL.  You’ll be hearing a lot more from her in the coming weeks, but in the meantime, check out more than a dozen of our exclusive recordings from this incredible event, as well as some video footage from the evening.

Kanye’s VH1 Storytellers taping finally aired tonight on VH1 after much anticipation.  Now I haven’t been a big fan of his 808’s performances so far, but he really stepped it up for this one.  The songs are way more organic with the band than previously before and the stage design is awesome.  Kanye also sounds a a lot better singing here than in previous performances.  I also have to give VH1 credit for not butchering the hell out of this in the editing room like they’ve been known to do in the past for broadcast performances.  This is definitely well worth the wait and you need to start downloading right away.

Some more exclusives from this past summer’s Virgin Mobile Festival.  Listen to Kanye debut NEW, never heard before verses at the end of “All Falls Down”.  If thats not enough, we’re also serving up an incredible live version of “Stronger” that honestly blows the studio version out of the water.  The breakdown with his band wailing on the timpani and taiko drums and Man-Man doing his thing on the vocoder is incredible.  (For what its worth, these songs are autotune free).

Kanye West co-headlined the 2008 Virgin Mobile Festival in Baltimore, MD and gave one of the best performances I have seen all year. This is an intimate Flashing Lights remix he performed, with the arrangements stripped down and Kanye getting quite personal with the crowd. For a star as big as Kanye, he means it when he proclaims “I’m talkin’ like it’s just you and me”. In this exclusive live remix, Kanye debuts new verses about how fame has affected him personally in his attempts to cope with all the flashing lights (when he’s not smashing paparazzi’s cameras, that is).
