Earlier this summer John Forte took the stage at City Winery in NYC and gave an incredible performance.  His unique band set up really blends perfectly to his style of music and sounds fantastic.  Here’s a bunch of our exclusive recordings from the show, including some special unreleased songs he performed.  The highlight of the night for me was when he debuted Sew Eye (So I) for the first time- the live version is incredible (he just released the studio version this week- peep it here if you haven’t heard it yet).  And yes, that picture above is from the bottle of wine they made exclusively for him at the show.

John Legend & The Roots played a special show at Terminal 5 this week in support of Wake Up that was broadcast on YouTube and directed by Spike Lee.  It served as a great release party, as all of the album’s special guests were in the house (Common, Melanie Fiona, CL Smooth) as well as a surprise performance from Jennifer Hudson.  Here is the full audio and video downloads.

John Legend’s new album, Wake Up, which is entirely produced and recorded with The Roots, is coming this September.  They have performed  together at a few shows this year and one of these occasions was this weekend in Philly, the night before The Roots Picnic at The World Cafe. In this epic set, JL and The Roots cover Roberta Flack, Curtis Mayfield, Teddy Pendergrass, Bill Withers and Donny Hathaway among others, with Black Thought adding in some rhymes.  Here’s a soundboard recording of the show.
