The Roots went all out to perform their new single, Dear God 2.0, with the help of Jim James and an orchestra last night on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.  Pretty epic performance right here.  How I Got Over is in stores this Tuesday, and on iTunes Sunday night at midnight.

For the first time ever, DJ Jazzy Jeff and Questlove teamed up for a very special performance at this years The Roots Picnic.   I’m a fan of what Travis Barker has done with DJ AM (RIP) and A-Trak, so I was definitely curious to see what Jeff and Quest had cooked up.  While Travis Barker’s projects are focused more on the party vibe, I feel Questlove and Jazzy Jeff were making a point to not only entertain, but to educate… and the outcome was phenomenal.  They played everything- Jay-Z, A Tribe Called Quest, Pete Rock, The Pharcyde, Biggie, Kanye, Common, etc. and often played the original sample leading into the hip hop classic.   Skillz served as hypeman for the occaison and did a great job getting the crowd involved without becoming overbearing.  This is one rare gem you wont want to miss.  Full download and stream of our exclusive recording after the jump.

John Legend’s new album, Wake Up, which is entirely produced and recorded with The Roots, is coming this September.  They have performed  together at a few shows this year and one of these occasions was this weekend in Philly, the night before The Roots Picnic at The World Cafe. In this epic set, JL and The Roots cover Roberta Flack, Curtis Mayfield, Teddy Pendergrass, Bill Withers and Donny Hathaway among others, with Black Thought adding in some rhymes.  Here’s a soundboard recording of the show.
