De La Soul was another notable hip-hop act to perform at Coachella this year. Backed by the Rhythm Roots All-Stars (a great live band), they rocked the crowd and turned the concert into a party. Here is their full performance, straight from the soundboard.

The Steppin Laser tour, featuring B.o.B and Lupe Fiasco, touched down in NYC for 2 sold-out shows this past weekend and most definitely lived up to its hype. B.o.B put on a fantastic opening set (check it out here) playing many songs from his upcoming album, The Adventures of Bobby Ray, which hits shelves April 27. Lupe closed out the night with an top notch set, backed by his DJ, drummer and guitarist. His show now has a bit more of a rock vibe at times, with the guitarist’s riffs more prevalent in the live show’s sound mix. Lupe has really honed his skills and is easily now in the upper ecehelon of top live performers. His breath control, which plagued him during his early years, is no longer an issue, in fact, its now on par with the likes of Black Thought, and his stage presence and charisma is unmatched. But enough about my review, you’re here to hear new music from Lasers, so hit the jump to stream/download our exclusive recordings of “Shining Down”, “I’m Beaming”, “State Run Radio”, an untitled new song as well as “National Anthem”, “Solar Midnight”, “Go Go Gadget Flow” and his 10-minute freestyle from Night 1.

I’m a bit late to the party here, which is funny because I meant to post these right after Questlove orginally shared them on his swift.fm page, but it slipped through the cracks. Regardless, if you haven’t heard these gems by now, The Roots paid homage to the great J Dilla on the anniversary of his passing by recreating his beats in the studio between rehearsals and tapings at 30 Rock. Unfortuantely, Black Thought does not grab the mic, but this collection of laid back instrumental grooves played by The Roots band will certainly get a ton of spins as its perfect to just lay back and vibe to. Free download and stream below.

The Soul Brother #1, Pete Rock, was the latest honoree of Peter Rosenberg’s celebrated Noisemakers series. The beat godfather gave an in-depth interview about his career, including some great stories of working with Kanye West (yes, its confirmed), Q-Tip, Nas, Puff and Biggie and a riveting tale of Big Pun eating a bag of onion rings while recording his verse for Verbal Murder. As with all Noisemaker events, the hip-hop icon’s extensive catalog of beats were brought to life via live tribute sets from Daru Jones and The Noize. The Noize consists of Daru Jones on drums, Igmar Thomas on trumpet, Chris Rob on keybass and Jared Jacobs on keys & synths. Pete Rock was definitely impressed by the band, saying “they nailed it to a T!”. The complete interview and tribute sets are below and are a must-listen for hip-hop heads. Previous featured Noisemakers guests include DJ Premier, Questlove, Q-Tip, Raekwon and Talib Kweli.
